Ep 115: Transformers Robots in Disguise

Another Japanese Transformers series?!  Guys!  It's been three weeks of nothing but Japanese Transformers, so how are Dave and Sean still alive?  This week's Robots in Disguise features friend of the show, Neil Kaplan as the voice of Optimus Prime.  AND we're also joined by Charlie Visconage, DC artist and painter!  

Will Charlie understand that there's really NO disguise for these robots?  Will Dave edit down all reviews that are over 500 characters?  Will Sean find every possible moment in a show where there's a weird parental connection?  (the answers are yes, yes, and yes! )  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

What if I told you that a Japanese Transformer's cartoon aired out of order in Russia.  As if Russia need another damn problem.  Is there another problem, you ask?  Well, not if you are confused by an Autobot and human mashup.  That's right, a Transformer who is also a human, who is also probably some type of a vehicle.  Sounds like a problem, right?

 We are back this week with more problems and more questions, like WTF is Transformer's Super-God Masterforce?  Is someone a God?  Are they Super?  What is a Masterforce?  Why does Sean have some of these toys in his garage?  We promise NOT to answer a single one of these questions as Sean and Dave explore: Transformers: Super-God Masterforce on this week's episode.

Ep 113: Transformers The Headmasters

How many Transformer's cartoons are there?  The answer is A LOT.  There are really a ton of Transformers cartoons and it's pretty incredible.  And now for a second question!  Have you ever had the following question  - "is there a Japanese, non-canon, Transformers series?"  Sean and Dave answer that  with Transformers: The Headmaster on this week's episode.  

If last week's Transformers Generation 1 was devoid of battle then this week we have the complete opposite.  The Headmaster is nothing but battles, across three planets, with tons of Robots that are really not in disguise at all.  Will Dave come to love the Trainbots?  Will Sean finally figure out what a "Headmaster" is on this show?  (the answers are yes and no)  All of that and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

Ep 112: Transformers

This week we are walking on hallowed ground with generation 1 of Transformers.  Sean and Dave feel that you cannot get anymore 80's nostalgic than the OG of this franchise that has spanned over 3+ decades!  The battle between Optimus and Megatron feels like a classic battle than has gone on forever.  And it HAS gone on forever, mainly because every time you kill one of these characters you're forced to remember that they're robots and they can be repaired and rebuilt.

So, does this classic battle of good vs evil stand the test of time?  Does Sean enjoy the robotic voices in this show?  Does Dave finally begin to understand the hierarchy of Cybertron?  All of this and more on this weeks episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons!

Ep 111: WildC.A.T.s

What happens when a shows theme song is a total earworm but the show itself is complete garbage?   Sean and Dave invite Evan Valentine back to try to solve the riddle of WildC.A.T.s, which means Covert Action Team plural?!  There is really only one team and NOTHING, we mean absolutely NOTHING, is covert about this band of misfits heroes.

Ep 110: Tales from the Cryptkeeper

Sean and Dave want to know if you have you ever had the following thought, "I'd love to adapt a Black Comedy anthology that used to be a 1950's comic book, that then HBO adapted into a live action show, but I want to remove all the sex, perversion, and gore, so kids can watch it!"   Extremely relatable, huh?   Well, that's exactly what the CBS Saturday morning cartoon block of programming did in the 90's with Tales from the Cryptkeeper.  

If you were ever a fan of the HBO series in the 90's then you'll remember each show was had an introduction from the Cryptkeeper himself.  So, how would you do this type of intro for a children's cartoon?  Well, you'd pepper in nothing but "Dad jokes" and bad puns.  How will Sean react to the idea of Werewolf tea?  Will Dave finally become a franchise owner for a health food store?   All of this and more on this week's episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons!

Ep 109: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

We here at Saturday Mourning Cartoons would like to apologize, to you the listener, if you have witnessed the animated horror called Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.  "How bad is it, guys!?"   "Well, ALLLLLLRIGHTY THEN, thank you for ASS-king," spoken through our collective butt.  It was so bad that we had to invent a totally new way to classify how bad cartoons can get when you shove an intellectual property through the lens of the child's cartoon that is so desperate for you to remember that intellectual property, that it only focuses on strained catch phrases that were once funny in an adult movie. Pretty freakin' bad.  

Will Sean break down and start doing a Jim Carey impression?  Will Dave throw a fit at the absurdity of watching two voice actors try to out "Jim Carey" each other?  Only time will tell on this week's episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons!

Ep 108: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Ninja.  Ninja rap. GO GO GO!  Sean and Dave are jumping down the sewers this week with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Maybe this cartoon defined your childhood whether it was through this cartoon, or the action figure, and/or the live action movies?!  

TMNT felt like an old friend that you hadn't seen in a while and then suddenly you bump into each other and you ask the question, "why are you adding such bad sound fx?"  Ya know, relatable stuff that everyone goes through.   Our good buddy, Dr. Jason Woods, joins the show with some amazing TMNT costume stories.  At the end the gang just throws a pizza party and takes the FB quiz "which Turtle are you?"  Turns out that Dave is a 'Carrie.'

Ep 107: Beast King Go Lion!

We are closing out June by forming Voltron one final time and we're going out in style with Melanie Harker.  It turns out that Ms. Harker has never properly been introduced to any incarnation of Voltron - EVER!  We welcome her into the fold with the OG Voltron - Beast King Go Lion!  This is the original material that Peter and John (come on guys!) purchased overseas which is all subtitled and has 100% more gore and slavery than the American version.  

Will the Voltron force ever align with the proper Lion based on color?  What is Voltron's actual origin story?  Will the space mice continue to do the can-can dance?  All these questions and more are answered in this weeks episode.
