Ep. 262: #Cybersix Review
Saturday Jan 25, 2020
Saturday Jan 25, 2020
In this Listener Recommendation episode, Sean and Dave tackle the internationally produced 1999 animated action series, 'Cybersix.' The unique show with an incredible international talent pool centered on the title character, a female android masquerading as a male literature teacher by day and a black-clad superhero by night. It's got mutants, it's got Nazis, it's got a compelling character with LGBTQ elements that makes for an interesting and modern story more than 20 years later.
The show was adapted from an original Argentine comic drawn by Carlos Meglia and written by Carlos Trillo for the Italian comics magazine Skorpio (Eura Editoriale), which was first translated into Spanish in 1993 before it was turned into a live-action series in 1995. Then, with production from Vancouver-based Network of Animation (NOA) and animated in Japan by TMS Entertainment, 'Cybersix' debuted in Argentina and Canada, eventually on Fox Kids in the U.S. The award-winning series was then scrapped after just one season due to expense and disagreement between production studios. That's a shame, as we discuss in this episode.

Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
Wednesday Jan 15, 2020
We chatted with 'Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts' creators Rad Sechrist and Bill Wolkoff to learn about their brand new and incredibly stylish Netflix series. Hailing from DreamWorks Animation and acclaimed animators at Studio Mir. The duo talked about developing the story from Sechrist's webcomics, finding a signature visual style and a bumping soundtrack to match it, and what lies ahead for a possible Season 2. More on 'Kipo' follows below:
After spending her entire life living in an underground burrow, a young girl named Kipo (Karen Fukuhara) is thrust into an adventure on the surface of a fantastical post-apocalyptic Earth. She joins a ragtag group of survivors as they embark on a journey through a vibrant wonderland where everything trying to kill them is downright adorable. The series is created and executive produced by Sechrist (How to Train Your Dragon 2) and executive produced and developed for television by Bill Wolkoff (The Man Who Fell To Earth).

In our interview with 'Harvey Girls Forever' executive producer Brendan Hay and supervising producer Aliki Theofilopoulos, we look back over four seasons and 52 episodes of the 'Harvey Street Kids' series. The producing duo talks about the things they're most proud of in Season 4 and in the show overall, the Chanukah special, the introduction of Casper, and the big musical send-off for the show.
Plus, they reveal their preferred origin story for The Bow, the possibility of seeing more Casper in the future, the big reveal of all the kids' parents in the final episode, and much more. As a parting gift, Hay and Theofilopoulos tease what they're up to next, including Warner Bros. Animation's 'Gremlins' series, heading to HBO Max in 2021, and a super-secret project for DreamWorks Animation.

Ep 258: 'LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures' Review
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
The best combined example of #LEGO and #StarWars yet arrives in the 2016 animated series, 'LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.' The original story follows a title family and youngster Rowan whose Force abilities allow him to manipulate LEGO bricks to take things apart and put them together again in creative ways. It's a fantastic addition to the Legends lore that delivers compelling characters and an entertaining story while also occurring parallel with some of your favorite moments from the 'Star Wars' universe.
Dave and Sean continue 'LEGO Star Wars' month with this animated series that you can watch on #DisneyPlus when you're not watching 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' in theaters.

'Missing Link' Production Designer Nelson Lowry Teases LAIKA's Next Movie
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
Saturday Dec 21, 2019
During our interview with 'Missing Link' Production Designer Nelson Lowry, he teased the next movie from #LAIKA, saying, "the next film is so different, fundamentally different, from the things we've done and really takes everything we've learned and just doubles down on them and showcases these new technologies that we're getting pretty good at. So, it's not just bigger and better, it's more clever use of, and it's just going to open up, I think, the vision for the studio in a way that people will be quite surprised."

Ep 257: ‘LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales’
Saturday Dec 14, 2019
Saturday Dec 14, 2019
Well before C-3PO got his creepy new red eyes, he was narrating his adventures across the galaxy far, far away in the 2015 series #LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales. This Legends show pokes fun at the characters and events of the #StarWars saga by retelling the story through the eyes of the only characters to be present for each and every adventure: C-3PO and R2-D2. But don’t worry, more droid pals will pop up along the way!
The Saturday Mourning Cartoons team of Dave Trumbore and Sean Paul Ellis continue LEGO Star Wars month with this animated series that you can watch on Disney+. Kill some time with us while we await the arrival of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20th. We hope you enjoy the show!
